Anchor Hocking's most popular brand of kitchenware was Fire-King. And of the Fire-King items I find at estate sales and thrift stores, I am pretty much sure I love the hobnail design the most.
Sure, the Fire-King Jadeite pieces are pretty popular and have a sort of trendy following (I blame Martha Stewart and The Pioneer Woman for that), but the prices, even at thrift stores, are fairly high. It is very recognizable, so the chances of getting a fantastic deal on Fire-King Jadeite is slim.
I find the hobnail items are much easier to find and much more reasonably priced.
So hobnail all the way for me!
Fire-King, which was made by the Anchor Hocking Glass Company, is a pressed oven-proof glass that they made into plates, cups and baking items.
You see the hobnail pieces most often in white, but they also made this lovely pink hobnail glass version, which I sort of adore.
It says OVEN (all caps), then Fire-King (in script writing), then WARE (all caps) and below that Made in USA. This particular mark was used in the 1950's.
I think this is a planter, so not sure it needed to be oven-proof. Roses a la king anyone?
The pink version makes me feel very dainty and girly girly. And as a girl who likes to dig around in basements at estate sales and has been known to DIY a home decor project or two, I can use all the dainty girly girly stuff I can get in my life.
