Well, I have a super quick and easy spring table decor idea for you.
How To Make Teacup Table Decorations:
(You may want to run to get a pen and paper so you can write down these highly detailed steps)
- Grab some teacups from your cupboard or buy some cheap teacups at the thrift store (they have a zillion teacups there).
- Buy a 4-6 pack of pansies. Normally $1.99 around these parts.
- Plant said pansies in said teacups, filling in with a little potting soil.
- Put teacups at each place setting and impress all your guests with your fabulous DIY skills.
Pro Tip For Planting Pansies In Teacups:
If your teacups are shorter and the pansies are poking over the top too much, there's an easy fix.
When you take the pansy out of the pack, just loosen up the roots at the bottom of the plant to make them a bit shorter.
This is really a good idea in any case, just to let their roots take hold a bit in the soil rather than staying compact and together.
I'd compare it to being similar to getting your pantyhose twisted, but since no one under the age of 45 remembers pantyhose, I'd just be aging myself.
Ideas For Using Your Teacup Table Decorations:
- Teacup centerpieces for weddings - use as wedding favors or grouped in the center of the table as a centerpiece - you can even put a vintage fork in the middle of the teacups and place your table numbers in them
- Easter table decor
- Mother's Day buffet decorations
- Favors for a little girl's tea party
A Couple Pansy Tips:
If you are going to give these as favors and allow the guests to take them home, you really should tell them that at some point soon they will need to take them out of the teacups in order to keep them alive (the cups are not large enough nor do they have proper drainage to serve as a permanent pansy paradise).
Try to avoid the super leggy and floppy looking pansies you might see at the store. The shorter, more compact plants that are green and healthy looking with plenty of blooms will put on the best show for your table.

Or just going to make a meal out of the Easter basket? A few marshmallow Peeps for appetizers, followed by a Cadbury Egg for the main course and finished off with a Reese's Peanut Butter Egg for dessert sounds good to me!

The tea cup you feature with the Lilly of the Valley is a Shelley cup and saucer and is currently on ebay for $59.99 and another for $39.99 (buy it now feature). I hope you still have it and are able to sell it for a nice profit! I realize this post is about a year old but hopefully you still own it. I just love your blog. I do still own it 🙂 That teacup was actually something my MIL had given me years ago. When I was at the thrift store picking up teacups and saucers for that project I found some really pretty ones to use, but I decided to use the Lily Of The Valley one in the project also, because it looked so springy. And then I just made sure no one that came for Easter dinner took THAT one home 🙂

Pam----That lily-of-the-valley set has all the signs of being Shelley. If you found it for fifty cents at your
thrift store....Wow! Nice cups and saucers don't go for that price in my area either, but Shelley is especially
sought after and high quality. You might want to do a bit of on-line research before you give it away as a
favor unless you want to gift it to someone who will truly appreciate it for what it is. Happy Easter!

I love this idea -- I'd do a single teacup because that suits my very busy kitchen table and it is easy to find a spot to move a small item to when you need to spread out the newspaper, etc.

They have some new ones this year from the people who make the Wave Petunias, they're called Wave Pansies. I didn't spring for them because they were twice as much as the regular pansies!

Love this idea. I'm sure our cats would also enjoy some fresh flowers on our table too. Smile. I really do like this idea and I have quite the stash of teacups from my grandmother up in my cupboard. Maybe if I actually do buy some pansies mother nature will decide to warm up and stop acting like winter.

What a darling idea. I'm afraid that "cheap" teacups don't exist around here. In most of the thrift stores they are considered antiques and come with a price of generally $7.00-15.00.
