Easter Porch Decor : A Repurposed Modern Farmhouse Look

Published by Pam Kessler | 827 words. · About 5 minutes to read this article. - 8 Comments

I don't normally do a whole lot of outdoor Easter decorating. Mainly because it's normally pretty chilly here in March.

Who wants to hang out on the porch putting up spring-like decor with snow flurries blowing sideways and wind whipping all around?

But this year is different. We've had a virtual heat wave here in the Midwest. It's not Florida-type weather, but I'll take 65 degrees in March whenever I can.

So to welcome spring, I decided to do a rustic, modern farmhouse meets thrift store finds kind of look. It was a good excuse to use a couple of my thrifty and repurposed finds that have been taking up space in the garage all winter.

Let's start with this Bunny I found at a local shop last week though. It's made out of a 1"x6" reclaimed fence picket in all its wonderful chippy self.

This would be very easy to do yourself. You could probably find an old fence picket at your local Habitat For Humanity ReStore and you could cut out this rough primitive rabbit outline with a scroll saw.

The yummy pink door is one of those items I've had sitting in the garage since last SUMMER just awaiting some sort of inspiration for what to do with it.

You all do that, right? Buy something because you know you'll eventually, someday in the future, just about the time your husband threatens to relocate it to the curb, find a perfect use for it.

I'm guessing it might have been a door in an old barn painted pink because the lady of the farm was tired of everything in the barn being white and boring and she insisted the cows needed something pretty to look at. Or something like that.

I found the super-springy colorful pink tulip wreath at JoAnn Fabrics. Normally I would make my own wreath, but I saw this and immediately thought it was just about perfect for this pink door.

I screwed a cup hook in the door so I could hang it without a clunky traditional over-the-door type wreath hanger. (I just checked and it says this wreath is currently unavailable online, but you might be able to find it in your local JoAnn's store).

BTW, almost everything I buy at JoAnn Fabrics or Michael's is bought on sale and with a promotional coupon. Look for the days they have coupons for an extra 20% off including items already on sale and it's like printing free money!

Never, and I mean never, buy anything full-price at those stores. It always goes on sale.

I wanted an Easter basket to set on top of the chippy green stool (another garage-hoarded piece) so I purchased this pansy basket at a local garden center. Then I just jammed some pussy willow branches into the dirt to dress it up ever so slightly.

Normally I make my own pansy baskets (you can find a tutorial for how to make planters out of a basket HERE), but this basket with pansies already in it was less than I would have paid for just two packs of pansies, so I just went that route.

And I didn't have to buy a bag of potting soil.

    Win, win, win.

Leftover greenery in a large stoneware crock on the porch.

    Yes, why yes I do.

I still have my Christmas greenery pot on my front porch.

I took out the Christmas bobbles in January when I took down my other Christmas decor but left just the greenery and birch branches in the urn for a little extended winter interest through January and February.

(jumping back in time to December 2023)

Which has now extended into spring.

It's partially still there because the greens were still alive and chugging along now going on 4 months (I made this in mid-November right before Thanksgiving).

And partially because that urn weighs 595 pounds give or take a few hundred pounds and I can barely move it an inch at a time.

Will it show up on my summer porch? You never know!

Side note: I have many posts on front porch decorating ideas (making planters, porch decor, door paint colors, etc) in my Front Porch Decor And Inspiration section. It's worth a look.

And since it is March and I won't be spending a lot of time on the porch quite yet, I have no pillows on the black porch rockers. I decided to only decorate that one area right by the front door.

Nor do I have a doormat??? Which I didn't notice until I was editing the photos.

I don't know how the UPS man will "hide" my Amazon boxes if he doesn't have a doormat to throw on top of them.

So in conclusion, raid your garage and see what you have that can brighten up your porch for Easter! Don't take your porch decor too seriously, have fun with it!

Have you decorated for spring yet this year?

More importantly, have you bought any pansies yet?

Most favorite is the basket of pansy 's. Love the color. Neighbors probably drive by just to see what has changed on the porch. Great work.

It looks great! I'm inspired to decorate my deck and front door for Spring. Everything here in CT is gray and brown right now. Time for a little color. I know there is a piece of wood in the garage that would make a nice bunny, or maybe even two....:).

Yes, it would probably only take 5 minutes to cut out the shape! Go for it!

This is super cute and fun, Pam. Love the pink door and aqua stool. So springy! All I've put out on the front porch is a basket with faux tulips. It's been a rollercoaster of weather. Pansy basket is adorable!

I have my washtub on the back porch filled with faux tulips and some birch bark logs 🙂 It's easy and I don't have to worry about the dog digging anything up!
