This is the best recipe for soft and chewy oatmeal cookies just like Grandma used to make! They're super easy to make too.

Back when I was shamelessly showing off my enamel topped kitchen cabinet on my Antique Farmhouse Kitchen Cabinet post a few weeks ago, I had "staged" the photo with some oatmeal cookies.

I know a few of you, who may or may not be related to me, probably thought I had bought the cookies from the bakery and just threw some oatmeal and flour around for looks. But no, I made these babies!

Oatmeal cookies!!! Who doesn't love a good oatmeal cookie!

    From scratch.

Back when I was growing up (long, long ago) I used this very same recipe to make oatmeal cookies with my mom.

With this being from a grungy old hand-written recipe card from my mother's recipe box, I have no idea what the calorie count is. Let's just say, it's a cookie. And by definition, a cookie isn't exactly a diet food, right? But oatmeal is good for you, so that has to counteract SOMETHING.

BTW, there are no electric mixers required, so it's a perfect recipe for kids to help with. And best thing is, it's made all in one bowl, so minimal cleanup.

Oh, and I have not gone nuts. That I know of. Normally, in your typical cookie recipe you beat up the eggs and other wet ingredients and add your dry ingredients into that wet mix. We're doing it backwards here, people. And it works.

There's just something comfy and cozy about sitting at the kitchen table with a warm oatmeal cookie right out of the oven and a glass of ice cold milk. Nothing says lovin' like a cookie straight from the oven, I always say. Or was that the Pillsbury Doughboy?

I get confused with that pudgy white guy all the time!

After I got done mixing everything the batter was all crumbly and dry, wonder what I did wrong I put everything asked for and added wet ingredients after mixing dry ingredients?

Oh, no. I'm sorry, but I've never heard of that happening before. As long as you used the oil, milk and egg it should have been moist and not crumbly.

I had just made these today and may I say they were pretty delish! I just bought some Quaker Oats y'day on sale, not to think that I would ended making oatmeal cookies today b/c I had a sweet tooth. So glad I came across this easy recipe and thankfully I had all ingredients on hand. I will be making these again and perhaps try adding chocolate chips next time.

Just made these! I used melted coconut oil instead of vegetable. Also threw in half a cup of shredded coconut. They turned not as fluffy as yours, but tasty! ??

Just made this recipe and it was the best oatmeal cookie recipe I've ever made! Thank you for posting it! I love the hint of ginger and cinnamon. That was a nice touch! I also loved how much they retained shape and stayed fluffy!

Looking forward to making these again!

I adore oatmeal cookies, but I never think to have them. I stumbled across your recipe on Pinterest when I was trying to find a treat that would use ingredients we already had.

My husband hates oatmeal cookies, and anything with oatmeal in it. He LOVED these... I had to make another batch because most were eaten by him. haha

Thank you for sharing this recipe. It's beautifully simple, easy to make, and they turn out rustic and delicious!!!

How did you get that cute custom looking blurb with the arrow? If you have time would you look at Oven Hug and let me know what you think? It's literally about 2 weeks new. thanks!! - Bita

No, not a Pi Phi, just an arrow lover 🙂

Your blog looks great! I see you use Foodie Pro also! It took me a while to set mine up (I used a lot of the Minimalist Baker's tutorials), but once I got it how I wanted it it's pretty easy to play around with. You're off to a great start with your blog! Good luck!

I used ginger powder from the spice aisle at the grocery store, Sara. You could grate your own, although I'm not sure if you would measure it out the same. I'm thinking freshly grated ginger might be more potent?

You don't have to. Its not mandatory, just to give it an extra taste 🙂

If you break cookies in half the calories fall out! Mine are a little more crunchy and also incite overdosing.
